Module

Observing Everyday Life

This module teaches you to know your day as it is before you try to change it. Four lessons — from mapping a real day to the weekly review — make the structure and rhythm of your day visible.

In this module

  • You can record and map an ordinary day without commentary
  • You can tell the fixed and flexible responsibilities in your day apart
  • You can notice the rises and dips of your energy and attention through the day
  • You can run a short weekly review and choose one small adjustment

Why observe first?

Most attempts at a better routine are planned around the ideal day in our heads rather than the real one — which is why they fall apart in the first busy week. This module starts from the other end: you first observe how the day actually flows, which hours are not yours to move, and when your energy rises and falls. There is almost no advice to change anything in this module; the only job here is to take an accurate photograph. That photograph becomes the raw material for the behaviour design work in the second module.

The order of the lessons

The module moves in four steps. First you record one of your days in Mapping a Real Day. Then you sort the blocks on that map in Fixed and Flexible Responsibilities. In the third lesson you look at the same day through the lens of energy and attention. The final lesson, the Weekly Review, turns this observation from a one-off exercise into a light routine.
